PA EITC program

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County, PA (BBBS of Berks) is honored to be an EITC-eligible agency since 2006.  Administered by the state Department of Community & Economic Development, the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program allows approved businesses to make contributions to Educational Improvement Organizations (like BBBS of Berks).  An EITC-approved business may receive a tax credit equal to 75% of its tax liability for certain taxes (up to $750,000) or 90% if the business agrees to provide the same amount of contribution to an organization for two consecutive years.EITC funds received by BBBS of Berks go toward administering our SMART (Students & Mentors Achieving Results Together) program at Conrad Weiser, Hamburg Area, and Oley Valley School Districts.  Six schools in those three districts participate in the SMART program, which matches High School Bigs with Littles from elementary and/or middle schools.Funding received through the EITC is critical in maintaining those quality-driven programs. In FY-2021, twelve (12) companies provided BBBS of Berks with EITC funds including Orrstown Bank, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials, Tompkins Community Bank, Mid Penn Bank, Rutter's, AmerisourceBergen, Fulton Bank, Weis Markets, J.P. Mascaro & Sons, and East Penn/Deka.  Only two (2) companies have contributed, so far, in 2022 -- but the majority of donations are received in the final quarter of the year.If your company would like more information on our participation in the PA EITC program, contact Executive Director Jim Smith at JimS@BigsInBerks.org.
