EITC check presented

Big Brothers Big Sisters had a visit this morning from Tompkins Branch Manager (and Board member) Susan Belfer and Assistant Branch Manager Edwin Alvarado today.  Our friends from Tompkins were here to present the agency with a $2,500 check through PA's Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.  Pictured is our Program Administrator Bethany Redmond-Baez accepting the check from Mr. Alvarado.Tompkins is one of ten companies who have contributed $38,000 to the agency through the EITC program -- which funds our SMART (Students & Mentors Achieving Results Together) programs at Conrad Weiser, Hamburg Area, and Oley Valley School Districts.  Six schools (elementary and middle) in those three districts benefit from having High School Bigs mentor Littles during the school year; and the Bigs benefit by getting the service-learning hours they need to graduate. We thank all of the companies who have contributed through the EITC program.  Besides Tompkins, they include:

  • East Penn Manufacturing ($8,000)

  • Orrstown Bank ($5,000)

  • Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials ($5,000)

  • Avalon Insurance ($5,000)

  • Truist ($2,500)

  • Mid Penn Bank ($2,500)

  • Weis Markets ($1,500)

  • J.P. Mascaro & Sons ($1,000)

Fulton Bank will also be participating this year -- with a $5,000 contribution pending.Through the PA EITC program, participating companies are able to donate a large portion of their state taxes to EITC-approved agencies.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County, PA, has been an approved agency since 2006.
