Defending Potential

Every child deserves a chance to see their potential realized, and our Big Brothers and Big Sisters are here to defend that potential…people like Big Sister Kristi, who was just matched with Little Sister Samantha.  Congratulations, you two, our newest One-To-One Match!  They were introduced yesterday evening by Casework Manager Danica Gabrielson (top, right).

LS Samantha (lower picture) and BS Kristi (top, left) are starting off as a virtual match.  They’ll start getting to know each other on-line before eventually meeting face-to-face.  As you can see by the smiles, all were excited to begin their journey.

Virtual matches are just one of the ways that BBBS of Berks has adapted to the challenges of COVID-19, so we can continue to provide our quality-driven mentoring services to Berks County youth facing adversity.  Despite COVID-19, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County provided over 12,500 mentoring program service hours to about 200 Littles last year…and this year, we hope to serve even more!  Nearly 77% of the Littles surveyed last year said they improved their self-confidence, and about 95% of them said they maintained or improved their sense of the future.

We are accepting new Littles and new Bigs!  If you are a parent or guardian who believes your child could benefit from a Big, visit our ENROLL YOUR CHILD page at https://bigsinberks.org/enroll-your-child/ .  If you are someone who wants to help inspire the potential in our Littles, visit our BECOME A BIG page at https://bigsinberks.org/become-a-big/ .  Either way, you can also call our agency at (610) 373-5544 during our business hours which are currently Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
